On December 18, 2009, fashion fans at the Chicago Center for the Performing Arts were treated to a spectacular evening of glamour, music and pampering at the Fashion Frost Holiday Fashion Show. Fashion Frost presented designers showcasing the latest trends in holiday and winter designs. Fashion Frost was not all about fashion as proceeds were to benefit ChicagoToyDrive.org - which has for the last 10 years been putting smiles on the faces of less fortunate children in Chicago through their toy donations.
The doors opened at 7 pm for cocktails and a fashion expo, while the main fashion event began at 9:00 pm. The show opened up with what was to be a surprise highlight as local rising music stars “The Sweeps”performed. While “The Sweeps” were rocking the house, Sugar & Spice and Pristine Image dazzled the crowd with a special Frostin Hair & Make up Pre show. This opening runway show placed the focus on the creative makeup and hair work from Sugar & Spice and Pristine. Together with The Sweeps the attending crowd was treated to a fabulous intro to the main show.
Fashion Frosts featured Fashion show presented designs by Chicago’s finest when it comes to fashion. Those on the event’s list of designers featured both household Chicago names and unforgettable newcomers including Melanie Saldivar who is a native of Chicago and a vintage clothing consultant. Saldivar who has supplied Neiman Marcus fashion heads, television wardrobe departments, as well as many other women from all around the globe did not disappoint. Yank German was another featured designer who is originally from Russia. A trained professional ballerina, German made her debut in the fashion world by designing costumes for other ballroom dancers as a hobby. Thereafter, this was quickly transformed into her passion and the rest was History.
Horacio Nieto Jr. also showcased his men’s designs which based on the cheering was a crowd favorite.
Fashion Frost wouldn’t have been the same without Sophie Pratt - of the Stiletto Squad Boutique. A relative newcomer, she debuted her first fashion line in February 2009. The Stiletto Squad Boutique started by Sophia Pratt, a native Parisian who views fashion as much more than an art – but as a need that must be satisfied.
Freddie Rocha showcased pieces from Soledad designs as well. Soledad Designs was founded by Carla Soledad Rivera but recently teamed up with designer Freddie Rocha. Seems Soledad Designs is benefiting from their collaborations.
Rosina Mae Turner was not to be left out of this great event either. Based in Chicago, Rosina Mae Turner began her Rosina-Mae line after graduating form the Dominican University in 2008. Rosina takes pride in keeping her garment work local and enjoys supporting everyone in the Chicago Fashion Industry.
Wanda Cobar also showcased her Cobar line at Fashion Frost. Born and raised in Chicago, Cobar displayed why she is a fast rising star in Chicago.
Last but not least was Elda De La Rosa who ended the Fashion show with her exquisite handmade designs. These elegant dresses showed why Elda is considered one of Chicago’s top Designers
But as mentioned the elegant designs weren’t the only showstoppers at Fashion Frost. The show closed with The Sweeps who brought the house down with their live performance. These Midwestern and Texas boys belted out tunes from their debut EP “Midnight at the Box” to the delight of the attending audience.
All in all the evening was a great time for all that attended. Prior to the show the guests at Fashion Frost were also indulged with massages and mini makeovers, not to mention the great gift bags, fun raffle, appetizers and complimentary cocktails. There was also a silent auction which featured several sponsors, as well as creations of the featured designers for the show. Chicago’s very own Djs PBI were also on hand to ensure that the guests got their fix of good music throughout the entire event.
The official after party of Fashion Frost was held at Crobar and sponsored by OneWorld. This attendee is excited to see what Fashion Frost does next year and encourages people to visit FashionFrost.net to get details on next years event.
